Dallas Care For The Hungry And The Homeless

Every Saturday morning for the past twelve years, hungry and often homeless men, women, and children have gathered in a South Dallas vacant lot to gratefully receive a hot meal from their brothers and sisters who are the knights and dames of the Dallas Region of the Order of Malta. Rain or shine, good weather and bad, the Order of Malta has been there, serving those in desperate need.

Dallas Members Pray For Life

On October 23, more than twenty members from the Dallas Regional Area, working with the Catholic Pro-Life Committee, committed ten hours of prayer in front of a late term abortion clinic as part of 40 Days For Life.

New Orleans Home Rebuild Project

10/4/2017

Since March 2006, over 1000 volunteers from all across the US have participated in the Order of Malta New Orleans Home Rebuilding Program. Thanks to a successful partnership with Rebuilding Together, Catholic Charities of New Orleans, and the New Orleans Marriott our volunteers have worked 37 one-week work sessions in Treme, Gentilly, and New Orleans East – and over 40 families have moved back in their homes as a result of the great work done by our Order of Malta volunteers.

Special Projects

  • Ministry to Homeless - Each week the Homeless Ministry funds and runs a Saturday picnic in a vacant lot for 75 to 150 homeless people. This includes not only food, but also clothing, jobs, shoes, blankets, prayer, conversation and always a hot meal. Contact: Bette Hoag
  • Ministry to St. Joseph Residence - There is an annual Christmas mass and dinner for the elderly at St. Joseph’s. There are 45 residents and 10 nuns. Contact: Dan & Bettina Hennessey, Anne Lesniak
  • Our Lady of Guadalupe Shelter – members prepare and deliver meals to these pregnant, unwed women and they bring in food for their pantry; volunteers also help with repairs to the premises, answer phones, and run errands for the Sisters. Contact: Susan Stanzel
  • Missionaries of Charity Summer Camp – SMOM volunteers provide lunch for 150-200 students during the month of July. Contact: Theresa Martter
  • St. Paul’s Hospital – SMOM volunteers deliver Communion to the patients at St. Paul’s. Contact: Theresa Martter

The Dallas area group of the Federal Association began in the mid 1990’s. There are 46 members of the Order living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. 

Monthly Mass

Celebrated every Wednesday at 6:45 a.m. at Saint Monica Catholic Church. Followed by morning prayers and breakfast. During school year, mass is celebrated on the first Friday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Cistercian Chapel. Followed by dinner. Eucharistic Adoration at St. Monica Catholic Church - every Monday night. Feed The Hungry program - every Saturday morning.
