Chicago Region Remembers Deceased Members

Last month the Chicago Region celebrated the Annual Mass of Remembrance for deceased members and malades at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii in Chicago, attended by more than 35 members, and family and friends.

The Very Rev. Richard N. Fragomeni, rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii and a magistral chaplain of the Federal Association, was the principal celebrant. Msgr. Robert J. Dempsey, ChM, a magistral chaplain of the American Association, was the concelebrant. Deacon Joshua Richter, OFM, assisted during the Mass and delivered the homily. Deacon Stan Strom, a magistral deacon, and Fra' Tom Mulligan also attended. Joseph Peters, a candidate for 2026, prepared the musical selections and was the organist and pianist during the Mass, while Laura Pinto led everyone in song as the cantor.

Mass was celebrated in the Shrine's temporary chapel while the historic church is nearing the end of a total renovation of the interior.

During the Prayers of the Faithful, all of those who entered eternal life since last year's Mass of Remembrance in both the Federal and American associations were remembered by name. The worship booklet listed the names of the Chicago Region knights, dames, maladies, and Auxiliary members who passed away in recent years.

After Mass, everyone gathered in the Shrine's hall for dinner and fellowship. Deacon Stan Strom offered a brief reflection on the good works of the Chicago Region before leading everyone in prayer before the meal.
