"We are dealing with real people, real lives. We are giving our lives for our values, our rights, our freedoms, for the desire to be equals  as much as you are."

-Volodymyr Zelensky via CNN World News

Dear Members and Friends of the Federal Association,

It is now nearly a week since the tragic war in Ukraine began. No doubt you have seen some of the incredible devastation in the news, innocent civilians killed, tens of thousands of refugees and terrible destruction of towns and now cities.

I have been in contact with Jerzy Baehr, President of the Polish Association of the Order of Malta. I have assured President Baehr of our thoughts and prayers for those in the Ukraine as well as for the efforts of the Polish Association . This brother Association, operating within its internal structures—the Foundation Maltese Assistance-Maltese Medical Corp, has created a program of assistance to victims and refugees from Ukraine. Right now, they are organizing help for refugees from Ukraine, finding shelter for them in Poland, in homes and parishes. Their program will also include, among others, free medical support implemented either in Ukraine through Malta structures there, with whom they have a close working relationship, or the assistance will be provided in Poland.

Importantly, many have asked about how they might be able to assist with the situation. From what we have surveyed to date, it appears that direct monetary donations might have the most immediate impact. There are various ways and groups whom to donate. However, I thought to make it easier for some, the Federal Association would set up an internal option of received donations, and in turn we will send any such support directly to the Polish Association.

Please consider making a donation here to support victims and refugees in and from Ukraine, either through the button below, or by sending a check to the Order of Malta-Federal Association Office at 1730 M Street, NW, Suite 403, Washington DC, 20036. Please be sure to include "Ukraine Relief" in the memo line of the check. We will be sure to send your support directly to the Polish Association.

Sincerely,

Fra' Thomas N. Mulligan
