Bluffton Enhances Work at Local Food Pantry

Believe it or not, impoverished people do live on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The brainchild of the Rev. Dr. Nannette Pierson, the Sandalwood Community Food Pantry began its operation in February of 2009. Five families were served on the first day. Today more than 800 families are served throughout the year from Queen's Chapel AME on Beach City Road. It is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization open to all needy people every Tuesday morning, regardless of their situations in life.

In 2022 members of the Bluffton Region started to enhance the complement of volunteers. We continue to make the presence of the Order of Malta known on the island as well as throughout the Low Country of South Carolina.
