Syracuse Region Holds Respect for Life Mass

In October the Syracuse Region held its Respect for Life Mass at Malta House for the residents of the Malta House and Malta Manor affordable-housing facilities in the city. The Rev. Christopher Celatano celebrated the Mass for the residents and members of the region. Afterward, he anointed all those in attendance who wished to receive the anointing. Father Celatano holds a special place in our hearts since he had accompanied our regional group on our Lourdes Pilgrimage in 2014 as a companion to his niece with several members of their family.

The region holds monthly birthday parties at Malta House to celebrate those who have a birthday that month. A meal is served to them followed by dessert, candles, and song. The party is usually themed to a holiday of the month and sometimes includes entertainment. Thanksgiving dinner is served every year on the Sunday before the holiday.

The region also holds a monthly pancake breakfast at a church in one of the underprivileged areas of the city for those in need. Winter coats from the Order were distributed last year to many of the participants, and plans for doing the same this year are underway.

Members also volunteer at a home for unwed mothers, making it possible for the moms and their children to "shop" at the "store" on the grounds of the home for necessities for themselves and their offspring.

Currently. a party is being planned for retired priests who reside at an area assisted-living facility, in appreciation for their years of service to the community and to the Order in the region.
