Long-Serving Priest Honored in Chicago

The 2026 Annual Day of Recollection for the Chicago Region was well attended on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on January 10 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii. The Very Reverend Richard N. Fragomeni, PhD, rector, magistral chaplain and celebrant, gave us an inspirational historic overview of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick from its origins until today.

Members of the Chicago Region were pleased to honor and show our sincere gratitude to Father Fragomeni with an award for his 20 years of selfless service to our region. Father Fragomeni also provided a tour of the magnificent restoration of the historic Shrine, now well underway. His dedication to this significant effort is inspirational, admired, and appreciated.

The tradition of this award began 20 years ago with the late Deacon Edward Gronkiewicz, KM, a valued member and leader within the region. The Day of Recollection created a lasting tradition fostering camaraderie and spiritual focus. Those who now make up the Milwaukee Region in the Federal Association are also seen even today gathering at the Day of Recollection.
